Got a call from Vivien this morning: 'Michel, we have a big problem, the stove is not working properly...' Ouch... Apparently the problem was that it would shut down after 5 minutes, which gave them just enough time to boil some water for the dehydrated food yesterday evening. At this time they had already considered turning around the next day to go back to Stavanger and get the stove checked. Would make them lose 2 days, but at least they would be able to cook properly...
This morning same problem again until their call. The fuel bottle was under pressure, the pre-heating of the stove was working fine but the stove would not burn more than 5 minutes. It looked like they had forgotten there was an ON/OFF position for the fuel bottle, so they tried again making sure the bottle was properly oriented, and it worked! Relieved, off they went for their 500m climb over 5km. Doesn't seem like much but when you're dragging a heavy sled behind you and you have to walk in the snow (there wasn't enough to ski yet) it's a tough job. So they did a pretty good job for the day!
If you look at their map you'll see that they had to backtrack a bit today. The reason: Marc had lost the GoPro camera! So they went back to look for it and fortunately found it!
New call from Vivien this evening... stove problem again! This time, the pre-heating would not work... After some investigation, it turns out that the flexible pipe between the fuel bottle and the stove is faulty. The next nights should be spent in huts so there's the possibility to make a fire. We'll get them a new stove at Haukeli which they hope to reach within a week...
Tonight they're sleeping by a lake, at about 800m altitude, away from the electric pylons this time ;-) Tomorrow's progression should be much faster with the skis and mainly flat terrain. They won't be able to cross over the next two lakes though as they are dammed: there is an ice sheet over them, but since water got let out of the dam, there is some air between the sheet and the water... no good for crossing!

Appel de Vivien ce matin: 'Michel, on a un problème, le réchaud marche pas...'. Aïe... A priori il s'allumait correctement mais s'éteignait au bout de 5min. Ça leur a quand même permis de faire bouillir assez d'eau pour la bouffe déshydratée hier soir, heureusement. À ce moment-là ils évaluaient déjà l'option de retourner à Stavanger pour faire vérifier le réchaud, ça leur aurait fait perdre 2 jours, mais au moins ils pourraient cuisiner sans soucis.
Ce matin, ça leur refait le même coup, d'où l'appel. Le préchauffage du réchaud fonctionne, la bouteille de gasoil est sous pression, en principe il devrait pas y avoir de problème. A priori ils avaient oublié de vérifier l'orientation de la bouteille de gasoil, c'est qu'il y a en fait une position ON/OFF en fouine sur ces trucs-là! Hop, on refait l'essais, et ça marche! Après un bon petit déj' ils ont plié la tente et sont parti pour leurs 500m d'ascension sur 5km. Ça parait peu comme ça mais quand on traîne un lourd traîneau et qu'en plus on doit marcher dans la neige parce qu'il y en a pas suffisamment pour skier, c'est pas une mince affaire! Ils ont atteint le 'plateau' donc bon boulot aujourd'hui!
Si vous jetez un oeil à la carte vous noterez un retour en arrière un certain moment... Explication: Marc avait paumé la caméra GoPro! Ils ont fait demi-tour vite fait pour la chercher et l'ont retrouvée sans trop de problème!
Nouvel appel de Vivien ce soir: encore le réchaud! Ce coup-ci c'est le préchauffage qui marche pas. Après investigation, ça serait un problème avec le flexible qui relie la bouteille de gasoil au réchaud... Les nuits suivantes seront en refuges en principe, avec la possibilité donc de faire du feux pour chauffer de l'eau. On va leur faire parvenir un nouveau réchaud à Haukeli qu'ils espèrent atteindre d'ici une semaine...
Ce soir, campement au bord du lac, à l'écart des pylônes électriques ce coup-ci ;-) Altitude 800m environs. La progression de demain devrait être beaucoup plus rapide puisque le dénivelé est moindre. Pas possible de passer sur les deux prochains lacs malheureusement: ils sont recouverts de glace, mais comme il y a un barrage et qu'on a laissé coulé de l'eau depuis la formation de la glace, il y a de l'air entre l'eau et la glace, pas top pour traverser, vas falloir longer!
